How can I learn to fish around Chicago?

Chicago Fishing Clubs offer Learning Opportunities

Whether you are moving to Chicago or learning to fish in Chicago, success is easy when you contact a local club. Several local clubs offer fishing educational outings, competitions and seminars to help you learn the area's fishing.

Anglers can take advantage of a world class carp fishery and competitive angling. Chicago is the center of competitive shore angling in the US featuring 4 of the nation's premier bank angling clubs and several national competitions. Carp is the World's most sought after gamefish and is growing in popularity in the U.S. because even a 2 lb. carp will make quick, long runs and many a fish will snap lines.

Clubs such as the Midwest Anglers Club, Joliet Junior College Anglers & the Marquette Park Bank Anglers run competitions in the Chicago area Spring, Summer & Fall.

The fishing competitions are great for newer anglers because all fishing is done from the bank. Anglers can meet up with their club and learn tactics, share gear and lake tips that catch fish.

Area clubs participate in multi-species angling as this offers the angler the greatest opportunity to catch some fish. Along with Carp, these clubs fish for bluegills, channel catfish, bass & even Goldfish! Clubs and more fishing information can be found here: http://www.midwestangler.com

Is there good fishing in Chicago?

Chicago Offers Great Salmon Fishing Opportunities

Chicago is rich with opportunities to catch giant fish as well as a lot of fish as the land adjacent to Lake Michigan is dotted with ponds, reservoirs, rivers & canals that are just full of fish.

Lake Michigan is home to giant 25 lb. King Salmon, Big Lake Trout, Steelhead Salmon, as well as a brand new fishery for big Smallmouth bass & walleye.

Salmon fishing on Lake Michigan requires a charter to get to the big fish. The best Salmon seasons are in Spring, early Summer as well as Fall to go after the big ones. Steelhead Salmon & Rainbow Trout can be caught all season long. Early Spring is best as Browns, Rainbows, Kings & Steelhead head into shore so anglers get maximum fishing time right outside the harbors!

Salmon charters can be found within the city of Chicago and as far North as the Wisconsin border. Some charter captains fish both Illinois & Wisconsin waters in an effort to locate the best fishing.
